Project Controller

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective
The project controller manages the financial aspects of projects. He/she oversees project revenues and expenditures to verify that projects are completed on time and within budgetary guidelines. Work duties include preparing and presenting financial statements, creating annual project budgets and forecasts, and supporting employees in the finance and operation department.

General

  1. Review and advise sales department on project contracts with a special focus on invoice milestones, rates, sales budget and Terms & Conditions
  2. Assist and/or manage management of operation department during Sales – Operations kick off meeting
  3. Prepare the operational budget in corporation with the operation department and calculate sales budget vs. costs while also advising on third party costs
  4. Monitor and report performance of projects to ensure financial and contractual objectives are met. Make corrective action recommendations, as required.
  5. Complete project close out and lessons learned
  6. Ability to absorb and consider conflicting information and offer insightful reports and recommendations to RLUSA senior management
  7. Negotiate and complete Change Orders and Change Order Requests
  8. Maintain communication with customers’ administrational department and support accounts receivable with any collection issues that arise on projects
Daily
  1. Review, create and maintain project related purchase orders for third parties
  2. Maintain communication with project manager
  3. Maintain communication and supporting the project site administrator
  4. Manages the invoice process for projects together with management
Weekly
  1. Report project outlook bi-weekly with the management of operation department
  2. Attend the financial operational meeting
  3. Maintain weekly forecast on Equipment
  4. Ensure invoices are submitted timely and accurately to the customer
Monthly
  1. Make revised project forecast based on latest information, project progress etc. Inform and discuss the project forecast with the Operations Director
  2. Control project information in Twinfield and audit timesheets, applied time, and other costs on the projects
  3. Creates monthly forecast based on estimated net revenue for projects
Quarterly
  1. Assist senior controller with preparing quarterly forecast
  2. Assist senior controller with project reporting and outlooks
  3. Discuss accruals and open purchase orders

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. On occasion, the employee may be exposed to outside working conditions which could include heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required, which would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, overtime exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM including a one hour lunch break.

Travel
Travel for this position is not required.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors or equivalent required.
  • Three years of previous related experience, construction/heavy lifting background preferred.
  • General knowledge of the heavy lifting industry.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment.
